Did I request thee maker from my clay to mould me man did I solicit thee from darkness to promote me?
London, 1818, a book was published anonymously the name of book was Frankenstein. Second edition of this book was published in 1923 in France. Mary Shelley the author of Frankenstein: or The Modern Prometheus writes a novel which is one of the first science fictions.
Was there actually a real Dr. Frankenstein?
His name was Johann Konrad Dippel and there are those who say that he was the model and inspiration for Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s novel Frankenstein. He was born on August 10, 1673, in Castle Frankenstein – a hilltop castle about 5 km south of Darmstadt, Germany, that was built some time before 1650.
There were claims made that during his stay at Castle Frankenstein, Dippel practiced alchemy and anatomy. It was rumored that Dippel performed gruesome experiments with cadavers in which he attempted to transfer the soul of one cadaver into another. However, while it possible that Dippel pursued similar objectives, there is no direct evidence to link him to these specific acts. Dippel did, however, experiment quite frequently with dead animals. So she was writing some original story?
Well there is no evidence at all which suggests that Mary got his idea of Frankenstein from Dipple. But Shelley travelled through Europe in 1814. Journeying along the River Rhine in Germany with a stop in Gernsheim which is just 17 km (10 mi) away from Frankenstein Castle, where, two centuries before, an alchemist, Dipple, was engaged in experiments.
From where she get the idea then?
Mary, Percy(her lover and future husband), and some of friends decided to have a competition to see who could write the best horror story. After thinking for days, Shelley dreamt about a scientist who created life and was horrified by what he had made; her dream later evolved into the novel’s story.(source: Wikipedia)
So after knowing this, can we say that she got her idea from real Frankenstein? Decide yourself!
In the movies and novels Dr. Frankenstein uses electricity to pump up the life in lifeless creature. Nowadays doctors use the same technique, we all have seen that in movies and TV serial. When the person is about to die doctors uses the electricity to start the heart again. Mary Shelley invented this techniques years ago. But one thing for sure in 1918 we do not know much about electricity so come she knows this much and she was only 18 years old when she starts writing the novel? Think about it! 😀
No doubt this novel attracts the readers and also the movie makers. There are numerous of movie on Frankenstein you can go through this link : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_featuring_Frankenstein’s_monster
